WHO WE ARE
OUR HISTORY
YESTERDAY
We were established on August 16, 1982, as an operating unit of the Saronno Subcommittee of the Italian Red Cross to support the out-of-hours medical service (Guardia Medica), thanks to the hard work of a few brave individuals who brought the Red Cross emblem, and activities, to this town. We have grown a lot in the past 30 years, but we always endeavour to keep alive the same enthusiasm and self-sacrifice that was the hallmark of our founders.
TODAY
A passion that does not wane; as can be seen from the volunteers who – for decades – have continued to help, but particularly from our generational turnover. Among our ranks, today, we have the children, grandchildren, and cousins of the initial volunteers still serving or those who, for various reasons, left the association. For us, this is a source of extreme pride and gratitude.
Here is what we do, including but not limited to:
- emergency response (toll-free single emergency number, “112”);
- joint management of drivers for organ, tissue and surgical team transportation for transplants;
- Mobile Resuscitation Center services;
- hospital discharges, admissions and transfers (including long-distance transfers);
- transportation services for consultations or treatments;
- transportation services for obese and severely obese individuals;
- assisted transportation for nephropathic patients;
- assisted transportation for oncological patients;
- assisted transportation for people with disability;
- transportation of blood and biological products;
- telerescue;
- civil protection;
- assistance at sports and other events;
- youth activities;
- road safety education;
- training in schools;
- first aid courses for the general population;
- interactive classes on pediatric airway obstruction manoevers;
- training courses for corporates;
- rental of post-traumatic or post-discharge medical aids;
- social welfare activities, including home care;
- home delivery service for prescription drugs
- blood donation
Many emergency activities (Civil Protection) are carried out at a provincial level: both direct interventions for the community as well as indirect prevention and training activities. In particular:
- setting up emergency camps;
- preparing meals;
- responding to national and international natural disasters;
- training staff in emergency management;
- practice drills in assembling field equipment;
- maxi emergency response drills.
